Restoring Old Photos

Do you have old photos that are ripped or torn? Some that have water damage from your basement that flooded after we had all that rain? They may be salvageable. Don’t throw those memories away without talking to me first! Something I’ve completely dove into is photo restorations.

My Mom’s wedding photos were in the basement several years ago. There was so much rain that particular day that the basement flooded and ruined her box of photos. She thought they were beyond repair and asked me to throw them away because she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Some were stuck together, some were moldy, and some had water stains all over them. She didn’t have a professional photographer take the wedding photos, they were just prints that were taken by friends and family in 1998 so they were all she had. I took the photos that were salvageable, scanned every one of them and restored them for her as a surprised on Christmas that year. I saved 65 of her wedding photos.

Then there was the image of my younger brother with my dad. The photo, my Dad’s wedding photo where he was holding my brother, was torn and had some other minor damage. It was just a small printed photo from 1995 I saved as a teenager. My brother was getting married last August and I wanted to surprise him with this photo for his wedding. It’s my brother’s favorite photo of him and my dad. We don’t have many photos with our parents so the few we have we cherish (See my blog on why taking photos with your kids is so important). Our dad passed away in February 2016 so this was the perfect gift to give his fiancé. She wanted to make him something special as a wedding gift at their wedding in August 2020. The cuff links she had the photo put on turned out beautifully!

Another photo restoration I am very proud of is of a Client’s father who was in the service. She cherished that photo but it was torn and wearing down quickly. I was able to restore it, piecing it back together. It was a long process but completely worth all the effort to be able to save that image for her.

There have been a few more restorations I have done. All of which I am very proud of. Saving these memories for my family and my Client’s gives me such joy.
